You can use the Wildcard '_' for individual characters or '*' at the the beginning and/or end of your input

e.g. 'col*' will bring up every entry starting with COL
'*ole*' will bring up every entry starting with with 'OLE' within the name, i.e. COLEMAN, FOLEY, etc
'*son' will bring up every entry ending in 'SON', i.e. GLEASON, JOHNSON, etc
'col_m*' will bring up every entry starting with "COLAM...", COLEM.." etc.
